Champagne Party

June 30, 2013

Although last weekend required some serious recovery time, it was one of the best weekends I've had in a long time! I woke up Saturday to a downpour, but thankfully the rain started to clear up just in time for Brandon's birthday dinner. As seen here and here, I was really getting excited for the party and was not about to let the rain ruin his special day. I did have a few incidents (such as a sinking, lopsided cake, and popped balloons), but everything worked itself out, and the birthday boy managed to have a great time. The evening began with a gourmet home cooked dinner, followed by an excessive amount of champagne drinking, and somehow ended with keg-stands.  Unfortunately I did not take as many pictures as I would have liked, but here are a few!

Graduand No More

June 28, 2013

Up until the day of my Convocation I really didn't feel like I was finished my degree. The routine of finishing exams had felt like any other Spring, so I truly wasn't in the graduating mindset. I woke up on the big day feeling serene and in a bizarre, dreamlike state, and entering my school for the last time, walking the halls and looking into old classrooms, felt so surreal. I remember waiting in the sea of graduands to get those sought after diplomas, thinking I will miss this, the lectures, the professors and the early morning walks through campus especially. Hearing my name being called and shaking the hands of my professors and esteemed colleagues was an amazing feeling of accomplishment. I may not know what's in store for me, but I can honestly say I am proud, anxious and unnerved at the same time.

Graduation Party Inspiration

June 20, 2013

Finishing my undergrad is hands down my biggest achievement yet, so it's no surprise that my family and I are in the celebrating mood. This weekend my parents are throwing me a graduation party, and despite the risk of thunderstorms, I am feeling pretty blessed that other people actually want to come together and celebrate something that I have accomplished. Even though I've been so busy working and planning this event, I've managed to commondeer some of the planning to add a hint of my favourites, as you can see with this inspiration board, the colours mint and gold especially.  Stay tuned for pictures from the event!

DIY Gold Party Accents

June 13, 2013

It's safe to say that planning two parties on the same weekend is causing a bit of havoc around here. Next weeks champagne birthday party just so happens to fall on the day before the graduation party my lovely mother is hosting for me (inspiration board to come!). I know I'm not technically supposed to be planning my own party, but I can't stop myself from tweaking the details! Since the majority of guests will be attending both parties, I knew I didn't want to use the same accessories, but I still wanted to personalize both parties.

First up are the stir sticks that I intend to put out beside the champagne glasses (at the champagne birthday party, obviously). Although they did take a fair bit of time, I love the look and how this sparkly accessory will fit right in with the theme! The supplies were pretty basic (and all found at the dollar store): any gold fringe or gold ribbon, wooden sticks, glue gun.

Moving on to the graduation party. To add a touch of glamour to the whimsical feel of the grad party, I decided to glitterize the bottom halves of some mason jars (which will act as vases). Again, pretty simple stuff; I taped off the bottom, applied glue, and glittered the jar. This way I can add a touch of the ravishing sparkly colour and create a chic-vintage vibe. And, when filled with my beloved peonies, they make for the perfect party accent!

I do still have a few touch ups to do but I am very pleased with the results! Stay tuned to see them finished and on display at the party!

Champagne Party Inspiration

June 06, 2013

It may or may not be due to the fact that my champagne party was on my 11th birthday, but I am so excited to be throwing my boyfriend his champagne birthday party in a few weeks. Although he shut down my brillant idea of having a Gatsby themed party (who wouldn't want to attend one of Gatsby's parties?!), I was able to sell him the glamorous idea of having a gold, black and white colour scheme. As you can see with my inspiration board, the idea is for all details to be shimmery, sparkly and sleek! I have already put in my rental order for coup champagne glasses, and I plan to tackle some DIY projects soon. My next tasks are to design a cake and decide on the perfect party snacks. I'll keep you posted!
