Pastel Jungle

As soon as this ballet slipper pink bag hit the Kate Spade website I was obsessed. I had been on the hunt for a blush pink bag for quite a while; one that was medium in size and had a good amount of structure. Unfortunately I had just made another purse purchase and I sadly had to resist all temptation. When I finally decided I could spring for the bag it was sold out everywhere. Until one random, yet blissful day (about a month ago) when I popped into Yorkdale and there she was. Ready for the best part? It was on sale. Let this be a lesson in waiting. It might take a day, or a year, but if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. I know I'm talking about a bag here, but it's such a "me" bag, and although I may have purchased it a season later,  I am thrilled it's in my possession. Also can we talk about how fun it is to find walls and buildings that correspond with your outfits?! The other weekend we were down by the CNE grounds and I was having a field day jumping along all the pastel pink, purple and blue walls I could find!

DIY Ice Cream Sandwich Bar

In my eyes, if there is one thing that embodies the first week of summer, it's ice cream sandwiches. B and I have been on the hunt for the most delectable ones in the city (more on that to come), so when I was finalizing the dessert menu for his birthday BBQ, which also happened to fall on the official first day of summer, I knew it had to involve these magical summertime treats. If you're planning on doing some outdoor entertaining this summer I urge you to put together a DIY ice cream sandwich bar. It couldn't be simpler to do and I promise all your guests will be in pure bliss devouring the treats and reminiscing about past childhood summers. Is there really anything better than an afternoon filled with sunshine, good company and ice cream oozing out the sides of two freshly baked, perfectly chewy-on-the-inside cookies?

Here's what you'll need:

THE COOKIE
I opted for these ultimate peanut butter cookies, since PB is his favourite. The combination of creamy peanut butter, chopped peanut butter cups, honey roasted peanuts, and peanut butter baking chips makes for the most intense, mouth-watering flavour. They were the softest, creamiest, melt-in-your-mouth peanut butter creation I have ever made. I chose to keep them small in size since some people get intimidated by ice cream sandwiches since you're actually have two cookies (absurd... I know). Not a fan of peanut butter? Try these (my fave). You'll thank me later. Can't decide?  Serve a variety of cookies for guests to mix up the top and bottom.

THE ICE CREAM
I chose for a classic vanilla ice cream as the cookies had so much going on in them. Pick your favourite; any will do. Why not try gourmet flavours such as toasted marshmallow, or cinnamon?

THE TOPPINGS
Chunkier toppings tend to slide off the ice cream, so I stuck with tinier options. I put out skor pieces, sprinkles, peanut butter baking chips, and chocolate covered sunflower seeds in tiny dishes so guests could easily roll their ice cream sammie through the additions.

EXTRAS
Sundae bowls are great to leave out in case guests want to avoid the sticky situation and make their creation in a bowl. Put out some spoons on the side.

As Of Late

{Colour blocking with my floral loving skull art @ The Samsung More Room}
It's almost the end of June. Where is the time going?? Summer hasn't even technically arrived and I already need it to slow down. Here's a little peak into what's been going on lately. Follow along on Instagram or Snapchat { @gabpacifico }for day-to-day musings of this girl, or check out the moments below to see what didn't make the insta feed. And yes- I am new to Snapchat. I probably don't need to get addicted to another social media outlet, but I do love catching behind the scenes moments from other bloggers, and seeing up the minute snaps from my friends!

Watercolour Skirt

This mint bag is the first pastel piece I ever featured on P&P. It lead me down a path of pastel obsession and fixation, and every time I wear it I am flooded with the memories of first starting this blog. The bag was first bought as my every day bag, it accompanied me on a European adventure, and has now become a special piece I cherish wearing. I pulled it out for a wedding shower last weekend, and just loved how it accented the colours in this watercolour skirt. Coming across a big mint door was just an added bonus!

The Best Chocolate Brownies

I know, I know- I was totally due for a new recipe! Since it's been so long for the sweet section I really wanted to give you a recipe straight from the heart, and one that I know and love. Not only is this recipe pulled from my family vault, but it is easily the best tasting brownie I have ever eaten. Even though these ooey-gooey, chocolaty brownies are my Great Aunt Harriet's special recipe, I swear I'm not just being biased- you can ask any of my friends! I really don't even bother eating other brownies because I know deep down they won't compare. Am I being too boastful? Probably, but it's true! This recipe has been passed down and it's one I seriously cherish. We still have the original recipe card where I wrote in my 8 year old handwriting "Aunt Harriet's Brownies". It's a classic.  And, if that's not enough to make you try them then maybe these facts will: you will use one bowl to whip up the batter, it takes all of 10 minutes to throw together, and there is no mixer required! In fact, you want you stir by hand to ensure you don't over mix the batter. And don't even think about skipping out on the icing. Heavenly, chocolaty, decadent and divine. I know you'll love these as much as my family does!

Brownie Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup chopped nuts (we use pecans)

Brownie Instructions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees (325 if using glass pan)
Place all ingredients in a bowl in order listed above.
Stir by hand until combined. Do not over mix.
Pour into parchment lined 13 x 9 baking pan.
Bake for 30 minutes maximum. No longer! Seriously you want them gooey. I always start with 25 minutes and go from there.

Icing Ingredients:
1/2 cup cocoa
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups mini marshmallows

Icing Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in heavy pan.
Bring to a boil stirring constantly.
Boil for 1 minute without stirring.
Place pan in another pan that is filled with cold water.
Beat until creamy and thick.
Stir in mini marshmallows.
Pour on brownies when they are totally cooled.

Leather & Lace

alt=leatherandlace

When it comes to outfit planning for a fun night out I love playing with different mediums and textures. This ensemble is made up of quite a few, all while keeping the black and white colour scheme. Leather, lace, marble print and silky scallops are all the elements of this simple yet coordinated outfit. I also love how medium mixing can take me from the office to after work events with the simplest additions. I wear this lace skirt to work all the time, maybe paired with a blouse for the day, but swap out the blouse for a tank, add on a leather jacket, and we're good to go! What do you think? Are you one to mix it up?

Red, White, Blue

I know what you're thinking...Is it the fourth of July, or something?!

Without getting into the boring details last week was just plain hectic. I had been looking forward to having a laid back weekend and laid back, breezy June evenings call for the simplest and easiest to throw on type of outfits.  I've been living in white jeans and white sneakers lately- there's something so fresh about white on white in the summer time. To keep it casual and to break up all the white, I layered on a comfy button down (since the evenings are still quite chilly), my favourite pair of chucks, and a red bag to bring out the strip of red in the sneakers.  Perfect for Saturday errands, a trip to the movies or a walk around the neighbourhood.

Do you have that one outfit that you're quick to throw on, that never steers you wrong, and is comfy but makes you feel chic at the same time?

Favourite Summer Sweets

Looking for the perfect treat to bring to a summer get-together? Today I'm rounding up some of my favourite past posts that are perfectly sweet for the season! Take it up a notch with a donut and mimosa themed brunch, or completely wow your tasters with these decadent mini peanut butter cheesecakes. Looking for something less chocolatey? I love making these candy kabobs this time of year! They take my right back to my childhood summer day. And of course I can not leave out these cake batter chocolate chip cookies, they are actually my favourite (check out the original post to find out how we chowed down on these babies last summer).

What is your quintessential summer treat?
