Blue Fuzzy Coat, Blue Jeans, Mint bag- January Blues
If you can't beat them, join them...right? Instead of fighting the January blues I have been embracing them. It's been a while since I wore this fuzzy blue coat and I love how fresh I felt pairing it with all blue-- crisp blue jeans, a chambray top, and my classic mint bag. This may not come as a surprise, but the coat is super cozy, and just perfect to fight this January chill. This was so necessary this past Sunday since I spent it running around finishing errands for my upcoming trip. By the way, I'm headed to Mexico tomorrow with my best friend! Woohoo!  I am beyond excited for a girl's trip!  Can you tell? It is way, way overdo. Be sure to follow along on all our shenanigans (@gabpacifico), and sorry in advance snap chat friends!

La Dolce Vita- Italy Vlog

January 25, 2016

You may remember a while ago, B and I took a trip to Europe (I'll link some past posts below). Since the travel bug has hit me hard this January I've been going through old pictures over and over again. We often look through the pictures of this trip, smiling and reminiscing, but I totally forgot about all the video footage I took while on this trip! I recently re-discovered it and created my first Vlog about our time in Italy. We flew from Nice to Naples, based ourselves in Positano and toured the Amalfi Coast. We then island hopped to Capri to soak up the sun for a few nights before heading northbound to Florence and Rome. The food, the people, the sites…I remember it like it was yesterday! We ate pizza and drank wine till we burst, scootered around like Romans, and set sail on our own adventures.

Here is my first attempt at video making! I'd love to hear your thoughts. I have so much more footage from Barcelona, and France; let me know if you want to see more!

Winter Red-y

January 22, 2016

winter outfit- pop of red, beige trench

A trip to Niagara way is never complete without a stop in Burlington, Ontario. Although it was too cold to stroll the waterfront the cold did not stop me from hitting up two of my favourite Burlington shops: Kelly's Bake Shoppe, and Centro Garden. When we left the city, the sun was shinning and the temperature was above freezing, hence my decision to pull out this trench one more time. Thank goodness for layering and turtlenecks, because once we made our way past Oakville the clouds rolled in and the temps dropped. This combination of warm gloves, a cashmere scarf and a knit turtleneck was my saving grace. That, and Kelly's mile high brownie.

I'm so happy it's Friday again! Do you have any weekend plans? Try incorporating a pop of colour into your outfit and feel your mood automatically lift!

Tropical Vacation Essentials

January 20, 2016

My upcoming getaway could not be coming at a more perfect time. Winter is in full swing, so it's definitely making the blistery January weather more bearable knowing that just next week I'll be sitting on a beach under the Mexican sun! The lack of sunshine is the one thing I can't stand in Winter. I need it to physically and mentally feel good. You know what I mean? I have been mentally packing my essentials and have realized I am lacking in the bathing suit department, but I have hardly seen any stores put out their getaway pieces! Ordering online isn't an option since I can't confirm anything will arrive on time, so until the stores get their act together I'll be dreaming of packing these beauties with me (especially of that Marysia scalloped suit- how gorg!). Apparently I have a thing with halters this season!

Are you getting away this winter? Or sticking it out at home?

Pink Pom

Winter white and blush pink

I'm back with this hat and bag combo, but with another blush addition to the mix-- this over-sized knit sweater from Joe Fresh (on sale!). Wearing white in winter is nothing new, but pairing it with crisp blush accents offers such a fresh and unexpected take on the season. The other day's seasonably decent weather allowed me to run out sans socks, and while my toes were definitely cold, my head sure was toasty!

What I love about this sweater is the extra roomy shoulder area, and the height of the turtleneck. It doesn't roll over like the majority of my turtlenecks which is a nice change, again adding to the crisp factor. I've been pairing this sweater with everything from black mini skirts to white denim and I have to say this look is one of my favourites! Add in a subtle nude lip and weekend errand running, I got you covered!

Jet Black Mini

January 15, 2016

Faux Fur & Quilted Black Mini Skirt- winter chic

I have to admit, I almost always gravitate towards a-line, high waist or midi skirts, so breaking into this mini was definitely a new phenomenon for me. The quilted design is what sold me on this affordable little piece and it's become a wardrobe favourite ever since.

Since these frigid temperatures seem to be sticking around for a bit I've been pairing it with opaque black tights to combat the cold, which surprisingly keeps me feeling confident since I don't feel too out of my comfort zone in this new (for me) length. It's always fun to switch things up and a jet black mini is definitely a switch up! Layered with a sweater and warm, over-sized, faux-fur coat also helps to keep the skirt daytime appropriate. Just enough sass to take your Friday outfit from day to night!

What do you think of mini skirts? Especially in the winter..I say don't be afraid to whip it out for fun outings! Just grab your warmest coat while you're at it.

Raw Cacao Energy Bites

Raw Cacao Energy Date Balls- superfoods, no bake, so easy!

If one of your resolutions was to be kinder to your body and be more conscious of what you put into it I have the perfect healthy, sweet treat for you. Healthy and tastes indulgent? I know what you're thinking, but it's true! Rest assured, these little energy balls are filled with super food goodness and will completely crush any chocolate craving! Have you been into making raw energy balls? I love trying out healthy recipes and am addicted to making these little balls to store in the freezer (you probably saw my Homemade Cookie Dough Larabars).  These little babies pack a nice energy punch, too. We have necessary omegas from the walnuts and chia seeds, fiber from the flax, the coconut oil to give you energy and help you burn off more fat, and the raw cacao to up the flavour and give you an antioxidant boost.

Raw Cacao Energy Date Balls- superfoods, no bake, so easy!

I adapted the recipe from Deliciously Ella (Ultimate Energy Bites) simply because I didn't have any hemp protein around, but I find they rid the hanger just fine without it. They are the perfect healthy treat, require no baking and take probably all of 5 minutes to throw together. I love storing them in my freezer for when those cravings come along. Also they pair impeccably well with a mid-afternoon almond milk cappuccino.

Ingredients:
3/4 cup raw almonds
3/4 cup raw walnuts
2 tablespoons chia seeds
2 tablespoons flax seeds (tip: ground your flax seeds first)
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon raw cacao (cocoa powder works, too!)
1 cup pitted medjool dates

Directions:
Using a blender (I use a Magic Bullet), blend almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, ground flax until crumb like texture.
Add the coconut oil, raw cacao powder and pitted dates.
**If the mixture is too thick to blend, add in water, one tablespoon at a time.
Roll into balls and place in freezer.

*Tip: spread your favourite nut butter on top for a SERIOUS treat!

Enjoy!

Life in Colour- Palm Springs Travel Diary

January 11, 2016

Palm Springs- colourful travel diary, where to eat, what to do,
Hello beautiful.

Palm Springs is one of those places you dream about going to but never really think you'll end up getting there. At least it was for me. When we decided to go to San Francisco, we knew we wanted to tack on another destination but also knew we wouldn't have enough time to venture south to Los Angeles and surrounding areas... so we thought "Palm Springs! Why not!". It am SO glad we stuck to this plan because it turned out to be an amazing experience! We stayed at the colourful, and dreamlike Saguaro Hotel where we drank margaritas and ate tacos by the pool, took advantage of the free bikes to ride around the city, shopped the inspiring retro design stores in Downtown Palm Springs, hotel hopped to check out The Paker and The Avalon, and even rented a car for a once in a lifetime drive to Joshua Tree National Park! I hope you are ready for the colour burst that is going down below. And I hope you see these pictures and transport yourself to the fun, whimsical and totally out of this world retro city. Of course I noted some of my favourite spots to eat and visit as well. Get your notebooks out!

Stay
So many options! We went with technicolour dream world.

We stayed at The Saguaro Palm Springs, which in all seriousness may seem like a glorified motel, but it's totally a fabulous time! Behind each colourful door is a vibrant, retro themed room, with your essentials-- bed, washroom, wifi, but it's outdoors that's the real beauty. Incredible views of the mountains, free bike rentals to scoot all over town, and the free shuttle bus to downtown Palm Springs right outside the hotel doors. What more could you need?! Tacos and margs? Yes, they have those too! As we visited in December, which is not quite a busy season, the hotel was less than full. Perfect for this mother-daughter duo because we literally had the hot tub to ourselves at night. Perfect for smuggling some plastic glasses of wine by the pool if you ask me! The music they played by the pool was great and the location is central. Plus there are two restaurants on-site if you don't feel like travelling.

Eat
We had some amazing meals in Palm Springs. Seriously I would go back to PS just to re-visit the following restaurants.

Breakfast- Chi Chi at The Avalon for acai bowls and more. I would have liked to visit for lunch, too!

Brunch/Lunch- The famous Norma's at The Parker Palm Springs will satisfy any brunch craving.
Bloody Mary's, massive omelettes, smoothies, pancakes, waffles and more!

Dinner- We had two amazing dinners in Palm Springs.
Birba in downtown Palm Spring is such a hip, modern spot for cocktails and dinner. They focus on Italian dishes with fresh, local ingredients, serve gluten-free crust, and have some wicked salads, too!
We also had a friend recommend La Spiga Ristorante in Palm Dessert to us for dinner. Since we had a car rental we were up for the short 20 minute drive. We had an amazing experience at this family owned and operated Italian restaurant. The owners are actually from Toronto, and are friends of a friend! How crazy is that! La Spiga transported us to Tuscany as this villa style restaurant is complete with gazebos, rose gardens and herb beds which are actually grown to use in the kitchen So fresh, so good!

Tacos- El Jefe at The Saguaro. It's not secret that I am obsessed with Mexican street food. El Jefe served up some of the best chips, guac, fresh fruit margaritas, and of course tacos. Having this restaurant at our hotel was too good to be true.

Do
Looking for more than lounging pool side? Not to worry, I got you covered!

Since Palm Springs is bicycle friendly, we spent an afternoon cycling around town to house gaze. We found that pink door was only a few minutes away from The Saguaro, and throughly enjoyed dream house hunting in the suburbs right near by.

Hotel hop- Palm Springs is filled with fabulous hotels. On our first day we biked to The Parker Palm Springs and treated ourselves to brunch at Norma's. What a stunning hotel! Walk the grounds and check out the lobby. Next time, I'm moving in! We also went to visit The Avalon, another stunning hotel.

Joshua Tree National Park- As I mentioned we had rented a car upon arrival. We drove out of Palm Springs to the dessert for a once in a lifetime chance to visit Joshua Tree. On the drive we passed the famous and grandiose windmill farm, and some sweet vintage shops along the way. Joshua Tree was an incredible experience. We barely made a dent in the 750 000 + acre park, but seeing the terrain and landscape was worth the drive.

Downtown Palm Springs- There are so many interior design shops to check out downtown Palm Springs. We had a blast checking out all the retro shops and wishing we could bring everything back with us. There is a free shuttle than runs up and down the main street, so be sure to take full advantage of that!

What do you think? Are you adding Palm Springs to your travel list?

Rose Quartz

January 08, 2016

Rose Quartz accessories- San Fran style

There is no shortage of pastel prettiness in San Francisco, that's for sure! Everywhere you look is another stunning home painted blue, yellow, pink or purple, and the wood work and intricate detailing that goes into these Victorian style homes is just mind blowing! One afternoon while walking around Hayes Valley, we stopped into Miette, on Octavia Street, for some sweets. Aside from being the cutest little shop and selling delicious cupcakes, maracons, and hard to come by candy, the exterior is painted a perfect shade of pink.

I picked up this scarf and hat combo just before leaving for San Fran and I am so thankful I did because it pretty much saved me from that San Fran chill! As soon as I saw the set I knew my pink Kate Spade Cedar Street Maise (which is now on sale!) would be coming along for the trip. I was delighted to find I fit in perfectly with the pretty pink walls at Miette and even more delighted as I had just found out  Rose Quartz was to be one of the colours of the year. I paired the pink with some black staples- my favourite J Brand jeans and a leather coat- and I was ready for a touristy day in this stunning city. I still have more coming from our trip, so stay tuned!

Did you catch my San Francisco travel diary?
