Denim Days

American Eagle distressed denim, white scoop neck jumpsuit, nude vest, snakeskin flats

What do you think your man would pull out of your closet if you asked him to put together your outfit? Last weekend, half jokingly, I asked B to pick out my outfit, and he took the task seriously. He went into my closet and pulled out the most classic yet simple outfit. The weather was dreary and chilly and it turns out this was the most perfect outfit for the occasion-- a matinee movie and a day date of errand running. After he pulled out a white tee and distressed denim I amped up the outfit with a long vest and a punchy lip. I can't deny that he nailed the task! Sometimes the most simple outfits are the best. He then proceeded to pull out his own pair of Levi's denim and a white tee. I thought it was the cutest. Matchy matchy on a Monday anyone?

Do you have a go-to simple, yet classic outfit?

How To Stop Selling Yourself Short

August 08, 2017

Terre Bleu Lavender Farm, How to stop selling yourself short, summer style

Yesterday someone asked me if I was a designer. Immediately I responded no, referring to my 9-5 conference planning job. After chatting with this person and talking a bit about what I love and my blog, I came to the realization that I am a designer. It may not be what I went to school for or my so called career, but I design all the time. Whether it's in my home, with my outfits, or a makeup look, I am designing. This person then went on about how she is never wrong with her intuition and that she knew I had a knack for the creative/design world. She also went on to say how special this gift is and when something comes more natural to you that we often forget it is not like that for everyone. Just like I cannot perform acupuncture, some people can not fathom putting outfits together. Sometimes we think that we all have the same innate knowledge, but we do not.  No one on this planet has the same eye as you do. You see things differently than everyone else and your perceptions are what makes you unique.

I really took this to heart and started reflecting on our conversation more and more. I realized that you don't need to have a degree in something to be something. You don't need to go to school to become a master at something and you are so much more than a piece of paper or what you do for a living. We cannot sell ourselves short. Do you love to bake? You're a baker! Do you love to bicycle? Then you're a cyclist! It's so important to not put these limitations on ourselves as they will just end up impeding on our dreams.

So how do we stop selling ourselves short?

Acknowledge your successes. Do not brush things off and do not play down your accomplishments. When someone says you put together a fabulous outfit do not just brush it off and say "oh, this old thing!". Say thank you and really appreciate that yes you did put together a fabulous outfit. Accept the praise in all walks of life.

Forgot the word "just". We all do it. I "just" write a blog, or I am "just" working here. Um, hello! Do you know how much goes into "just" writing a blog? The workload is insane. And you're not "just" working here. You are gaining valuable experience every day to take you where you need to go.

Do something every day to get you closer to your dreams. Take the little steps to get you where you want to be. Don't say no to opportunities. Take something out of the suckiest of situations and put yourself out there.

Accept that you are so much more. You do not need to compare yourself to your own expectations or someone else's experience. We all need to stop selling ourselves short and focus on our current achievements and future successes.

Getting The Most Out Of A Grocery Store Bouquet

August 03, 2017

So you mean I can't have a weekly delivery of fresh florals from my favourite florist? Or a weekly bouquet of fresh, lush, pink peonies? Fine...

How to get the most out of a grocery store bouquet. Turn 1 bouquet into 10 mini arrangements.
{before bouquet}

I think we all know spending loads on fresh cut flowers is sometimes out of the question. It would be lovely. Extremely lovely, but totally impractical when there are groceries, gas and a house to pay for. Sometimes all you have to work with is grocery store bouquets-- guests bring them, you've hit up the grocery store right before closing and that's all that's left, or it's just the most affordable option. They can be less than lovely, a random assortment of colours and flowers, but the gesture is lovely! But perhaps they are just not your favourite colours or styles. Hells no am I being unappreciative. I'll take ALL of the fleurs!  Sometimes you just need to get creative.
How to get the most out of a grocery store bouquet. Turn 1 bouquet into 10 mini arrangements.

This weeks experiment was making one bouquet stretch throughout the whole home, and in a way that I loved. I mean the arrangement I received was incredibly thoughtful, and I felt complete warmth and gratitude from it's senders. But part of me wanted to play around with it! And there is nothing wrong with that. Especially when it makes you happy.

How to get the most out of a grocery store bouquet. Turn 1 bouquet into 10 mini arrangements.

So, how did I take one bouquet and make 10 plus mini arrangements from it? Here's how:

1. First, you want to take apart the bouquet. Separate the flowers by colour and type. I grouped all the greenery together, then sorted the flowers out by colour (see the first photo).

2. Pull out all your mini jars. I knew all those juice jars I've been saving would come in handy! Get them all out and fill them with fresh water. You can get creative here-- cans, old candles, jars, bottles, anything works!

3. Decide on your theme. Do you want to stick to one colour pallet per bouquet? Or mix various colours together? I opted for a bit of both.

4. Play with the arrangements. Start by grabbing one large leaf or piece of greenery as the backdrop. Then pull together two or three flowers to place in front of the large greenery, just slightly lower than the top of the green. I then cut the stems and placed them in the vase. I'll add smaller flowers, little buds or alternate greens as needed around the focal flowers.

5. Keep going until all your flowers are used and vases are full! Place them in various places around your home.

There you have it! It's that simple to take one bouquet and make it into multiple beautiful arrangements. These are perfect accent pieces to place around the home, especially when you are having a get-together or guests over. They really add a touch of comfort, nature and beauty to any space. I also love to use a grouping of them together to make the perfect centre pieces!

Blush Jumpsuit

July 31, 2017

Blush Pink Satin Pantsuit, Black drop earrings, Vintage Chanel flap bag, black Zara Strappy Sandals --summer wedding attire

What to wear to a fancy affair when you feel uncomfortable in everything you own? This was the dilemma I faced last weekend. I knew I had a wedding to attend but I had been putting off trying on outfits for a while because I knew quite a few of my pieces would just not fit anymore. Even though this was a good thing for me, it's never an easy pill to swallow when you come to the realization that some of your favourite pieces will never fit again. I wanted to wear something I felt good in, that was easy and didn't leave me feeling restricted. Enter the most comfortable piece of clothing I now own-- this blush pink jumpsuit. The satin like material is extremely soft and flexible, and I literally feel like I'm wearing pyjamas.

I'm not going to lie, at first, I felt a little funny wearing a pant suit to a wedding. I've always been a dress kind of girl! But it was probably the best decision ever! I felt free, flowy and a touch sexy. The suit is sophisticated, kinda risque, and need I say more about the colour? It felt great to feel great in what I was wearing, and I hadn't felt like that in a few weeks! I amped up the tone of the outfit with bold black accessories to make it evening appropriate. You can never go wrong with a vintage Chanel and drop earrings!

Sometimes moving away from our signature piece can be a great thing. It allows us to become comfortable in trying new things and leaves the door open for more possibilities. What do you think? Are you one to stray away from your go-tos? I've also linked some fabulous blush pink jumpsuits for your viewing pleasure. Because I already need another!

Blue Off The Shoulder

July 24, 2017

Blue off the shoulder dress, Rebecca Minkoff bucket bag, retro white sunglasses, Gold Old Navy sandals, hair cut, Drybar Mai Tai Spritzer Sea Salt Spray

I'm still not over the off-the-shoulder look yet. How about you? I love how simple and effortless they are, especially this dress. Throw it on, grab a pair of sunnies, and instantly you feel put together, no makeup or hair-do necessary! Speaking of hair... my new do is making its first appearance on the blog! I chopped it off! What do you think?! I think we all go through those moments where you need to do something totally different. Usually, it happens with new seasons, but this time around I was just feeling it.  Since I don't dye my hair, a good chop was in order so I just went for it. It gives you such a refreshing sense of renewal. All I've been doing is spritzing some of my favourite sea salt spray into it and heading out the door, which makes getting ready to go out so easy!

Have you made any drastic changes lately? Do you regret them? So far I have zero regrets. Except there are those one-off moments when I see long hair and want it back... That's how it always goes, right? By the way-- I've linked tons of similar dress styles below for all your off-the-shoulder needs!

Green Floral Romper

July 19, 2017

green floral romper, Rebecca Minkoff bucket bag, gold flat sandals; Summer Style

Country driving, open sun-roof, coffee in hand... talk about the perfect Sunday. We headed out in the morning for a drive and thankfully the rain and thunder cleared up just as we approached a darling new destination. I love exploring little towns and sourcing some hidden gems. Sunday afternoon after running some errands we came across the Sharon Temple and once I saw its green columns and luscious green grass I knew we had to stop. It's a pretty cool building; it was constructed in 1825 by The Children of Peace, and the grounds are stunning. We found out it is now a museum and when we said we were newcomers to the area the museum attendant waived the $10 admission fee (score!).

It was a total fluke that the green romper I was wearing coordinated so perfectly with the setting. Rompers are so effortless; I could wear them every day! I usually avoid green but something about this one caught my eye. I love the bright colours in the florals and especially how the pink pops when paired with this liquid lip. Add in a few gold details and my go-to summer cross-body and I'm good to go.

Bouncing Back with Benefit's Boi-ing Collection

July 17, 2017

Benefit Boi-ing Concealers Review

I've had some real trouble finding the ideal concealer over the past few years. I was obsessed with NARS creamy concealer for quite some time, but could never find the perfect shade. Each one I used was either leaving dark shadows under my eyes or was brightening a little too much (enter weird white patches under my eyes). Then I went over to the Sephora brand and found it creased and didn't blend nicely. When I finally landed on "The Retoucher" by Charlotte Tilbury I fell in love. Since it's more of a luxury item I still was in search of an everyday concealer. When Benefit Cosmetics re-released their Boi-ing Collection I knew I had to try out the whole line. Especially since they were releasing a new product-- the Airbrush Concealer. For whatever the case may be I seem to always come back to Benefit... I mean have you tried Roller Lash and Hoola Bronzer!? My go-to mascara and bronzer, hands down. I can never get over their playful packaging, and the products just don't disappoint.

The Boi-ing Collection has 4 concealers... the original Boi-ing, whose name has changed to Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer,  Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer, Boi-ing Brightening Concealer, and lastly, the new, Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer. For whatever your needs/problem areas are, Benefit has you covered (literally... lol). Three shades to find your match. And even better? Each concealer is the same price, only $27 CAD. Let's break it down, shall we!

Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer: I loooove this one. It was formally called "Fake Up", which I had never used before. It comes in stick format and is perfect to take on the go. The concealer is in the middle core and is surrounded by a hydrating outer ring. I love throwing this in my purse for touch-ups throughout the day. It definitely is lighter in coverage, but it goes on so naturally. It's perfect for those dry areas, especially under the nostrils!
How to use: Swipe under the eyes and blend using your ring finger. I also use this on my lips to neutralize the colour before applying lipstick. So moisturizing!

Benefit Boi-ing Concealers Review - Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer, Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer, Boi-ing Brightening Concealer, Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer

Boi-ing Brightening Concealer: This one has pink undertones. It's full coverage and used to colour correct.
How to use: Dab into pot and dab onto the skin (under the eyes, for discolouration and imperfections).

Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer: Definitely the heavy hitter of the collection. Full coverage for those brutal early mornings, random spots and nasty breakouts. I like the creamy texture and the matte finish.
How to use: Dab your finger into the pot and blend. You could also use a brush for spot correcting. I also have been applying with a beauty blender to get a more concealed look and really blend it well since it's a bit thicker.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealers Review - Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer, Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer, Boi-ing Brightening Concealer, Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer

Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer: Okay... So, I'm obsessed! I love the smooth finish of this one! No cracking, no creasing, no build up. It's probably my favourite in this collection of concealers. So lightweight, so creamy, and it almost feels like a whip. It covers lines, undereye circles, imperfections and you can hardly notice it's there. Did I mention it's waterproof and lasts ALL DAY- like 11 hours to be exact. In terms of coverage, it's sort of a middle ground between the hydrating concealer and industrial strength. Bottom line- you need this one in your makeup bag.
How to use: Dab your finger into the pot and blend. I love using it under my eyes in the morning. I also have been applying it to my eyelids as a base before applying eyeshadow. It just makes it so fresh looking, natural and smooth.

Have you tried out Benefit's Boi-ing Collection? I'd love to know if there are there any concealers you addicted to.
