Mixing mediums is a crucial component of my winter dressing, especially when braving the outdoors. I mean, I still want to look chic in a metallic midi skirt, but also want to be warm and not freeze my butt off. We've been over this, I love pairing unexpected pieces together, so it was a no-brainer that this camel coloured turtleneck would pair perfectly with the gold tones in this multicoloured skirt.
When I saw this skirt pop up on the Zara winter sale for $11, YES- 11 FREAKING DOLLARS, I knew it would be the perfect piece to wear on the day of Brandon and I's house warming family gathering. It's glam, fun and flows oh, so nicely. Since we were inside you may have seen that I paired it with a ruffled sleeve t-shirt. I can't wait to wear it throughout spring and summer; the colours are so me! Equally as fun? These leather shoes. Again, scored on the Zara sale! I can already tell they are going to be a spring staple!
But back to the party. We had a blast and so did our family. So much food (thanks to our moms-lol), so much champagne and so much love. I wanted the day to be fun, but easy-going for both our sides to mingle. Here are a few things I was sure to do to make the day a hit.
1. Champagne upon arrival. When guests entered there was a tray with pre-filled champagne glasses waiting for them. There was also a beverage stand with extra bottles at the side in case I wasn't keeping up fast enough! This was the perfect way to welcome guests and set the tone of the day.
2. Address book as the guestbook. I purchased this address book and some pens to put out beside the champagne tray. I did up a sign on the computer that said "Now you know our address... what's yours?". That way they knew to leave their addresses. It's a great way to start building up your collection without having to ask people when you need it for something specific.
4. Popcorn bags as a take-home goodie. We purchased white paper bags and stuffed popcorn inside them. To close the bags we used washi tape, which signified the flavour of the popcorn. A sign on the table read "Thanks for popping by! Please take one." It was a fun little thank you and something guests could enjoy on the way home.
3. Don't Stress. This is your day! Enjoy it. The house may get messy and it will be fine. Just focus on enjoying the day/evening and let it all unfold.
What are some hostess tips you swear by? I'd love to know!
