Clove + Hallow | Clean Beauty Review

Clove + Hallow | A Clean, Vegan Beauty Review (Lip Velvet, Make Up Melt, Correct + Conceal

I was first introduced to Clove + Hallow a few months back when The Truth Beauty Company (a boutique solely selling natural, organic and good-for-you beauty, haircare and skincare products) held a brunch to launch the products into the Toronto scene. Sarah Biggers, founder of Clove + Hallow came all the way from Atlanta to share her inspiring story. When she turned towards the clean beauty world she was not able to find comparable products that offered the bold shades she was used to as well as had the ultimate staying power. Her goal? Combine great beauty products and the holistic world.  I left the brunch so excited about the brand and wearing one of Sarah's Lip Velvet, which is a liquid lip colour. Five hours later (after eating, drinking and wandering the city) I came home with the lipstick still intact. To say I was surprised was an understatement! When does natural, clean lipstick last THIS long?!

Playing Tourist in Le Marais

Paris Flytographer, red beret, strip shirt, engagement, couple in Paris, le marais

When you think of Paris, does it get any more classic than a red beret and a black and white striped shirt? I didn't think so either. I'm all about not being a tourist and experiencing a city like a local. So tell me does this look make me fit in completely or completely stand out as a tourist?! Lol. Either way, it was fun to prance around the city snapping shots in my Parisian best.Today's post is all about the best of the best in Paris. Since we had just got engaged we were flying high on life and love. Not a care in the world. And our visa bills are definitely reflecting this now! If you are looking to live large in Paris I'm sharing my favourite restaurants and bars that we indulged in on our trip. We love the low-key classic Parisian vibes. Think "Midnight in Paris"-- dark rooms, red velvet, and extremely overpriced coupes of Champagne. Don't worry our breakfasts and lunches were basically all purchased at the Monoprix, or little bistros so it made up for it (almost...).

1. Ralph's--This place will always have a special place in our hearts! It was just down the street from our AirBnB so it was always the home of our nightcap. And yes, we're talking Ralph as in the Ralph Lauren. They have a gorgeous courtyard, a stunning rustic interior, they play awesome tunes and will serve you the most addicting caramel popcorn with your drink or coffee. We may have gone here for once or twice just for the popcorn! It's THAT good. Bonus-- the staff were the sweetest and remembered us every time we came in!

 2. Bar Hemmingway-- Okay. You have to go to the Ritz while you are in Paris. I'm still conjuring up a scheme to get into Coco Chanel's apartment! I loved the vibes of Bar Hemmingway. It's so hidden, and not pretentious at all! It's at the back of the hotel and is so small you'll be lucky enough to get a table! The drinks are served with the most stunning roses and the assortment of pre-dinner snacks is basically good enough to count as dinner. Sometimes all you need is an expensive glass of champagne with an assortment of olives, crackers, and nuts. Tip-- head to the restrooms where the faucets are gold swans. Yes, actually.

3. Le George -- You guys... I didn't think a more gorgeous place existed. When you walk into the Four Seasons you will understand why. They literally have thousands of flowers brought in daily and on display. This restaurant is swanky and fabulous, but absolutely delicious. Book reservations and save it for your splurge meal. It will be worth it! Also the bar is so cozy for a pre-dinner drink!

4. Hotel Costes--Can you tell we love little hideout bars? The courtyard restaurant will probably be packed, and I can't speak to the food but the bar at Hotel Costes will make all your Parisian dreams come true. Think red velvet curtains, piano, and more. They even have a flower shop beside the hotel. We loved stopping in here for a pre-dinner glass of champ.

Other fancy places to consider-- The rooftop bar at The Peninsula Hotel (stunning view of the city!), Plaza Athenee, Le Moulin de la Galette

Looking for some cheaper eats: Try La Palette, Pizza Populaire or any restaurant by the Big Mamma Group, Hotel Grand Amour (pink courtyard dreams!), Aloha Cafe, Rose Bakery. Otherwise, picnic with the food at Monoprix! A baguette, some veg, and some sides are all you need!

Looking to satisfy your sweet tooth? Try the chou at Popelini, the waffles at Meert, the hot chocolate at Angelina, and anywhere else that smells divine!

Sidenote-- all restaurants serve a little snack with your drinks! And make reservations!

Black Velvet

Fall Paris street style, black velvet floral dress, low Zara kitten heels
Paris, mon amour. A black velvet floral dress just screams romance, mystery and passion and Paris was the perfect city to debut this little number from Honey. I wore this off the shoulder dress for our last night in the city of love. There is just something about a high-low cut that makes you want to twirl endlessly! I never felt more alive twirling my way through town, over the Pont des Arts and back again to our AirBnB.  Since we only packed carry-on I had to be extremely strategic in deciding which items I would bring. This dress was not getting left behind. Honey is seriously a one-stop dress shop. I could spend hours in there trying on all the gorgeous dresses. These heels were also the only ones I brought with me. A chunky low heel; perfectly sized to fit in our backpacks, comfortable enough for walking all over town, and neutral so they could go with everything. Narrowing down your shoes is no easy feat, but I think I managed well with these guys!

If you could only bring one shoe on your travels what would it be?!

Place des Vosges - Flytographer Review

Flytographer Review, Paris, Engagement, Place des Vosges, travel, places,
Paris was an absolute dream. There really are no words to describe this city. You instantly feel a sense of enamourment when you arrive. The sounds, the sights, the food; it really is everything and more. I'm going to be going more into detail on our trip (and yes our engagement!!) but for now, I wanted to share some photos of our morning at Place des Vosges. We headed there early on the day after our arrival. Before we left for our trip I had booked a photography session with Flytographer. I really just wanted some photos of ourselves, that weren't selfies, and this seemed like the best way to do it. It was a Tuesday so locals were busy hurrying off to work and we had the square to ourselves. After a bit of a mix up (I was still in Greece time, so we arrived an hour early...lol!), our photographer arrived and we met Olga. She was an absolute pleasure to shoot with. If you're thinking of booking a Flytographer package, do it! I highly recommend it and here's why. And btw- this post is in no way sponsored! I just truly loved my experience with them!

How to Instagram Paris Like A Parisian

How to Instagram Paris Like A Parisian

Ever wonder how when you travel you get so overwhelmed by the beauty and newness of places that you often forget to focus on the little details? You end up taking that classic picture of the Eiffel Tower that has been posted a billion times, there a bunch of smiling tourists in the background and truthfully, no real "Parisian" would ever fathom even taking a similar photo. On this trip, I really wanted to emphasize the hidden beauty, the less explored and be one with the locals! This gives you a new perspective on the city, allows you to see it behind native eyes, and yes-- you're Instagram feed will look a lot more fancy and distinguished!

Here's are five ways to Instagram Paris (or really any city) like a local.

How to Throw a Thanksgiving Picnic

Kelly's Bake Shoppe- Ontario gluten free vegan bakery, Thanksgiving Picnic for two, picnic essentials

When you think of Thanksgiving get-togethers usually you think "evening time, indoors". There might be a fire burning and a turkey in the oven. However, Brandon and I will be away for Thanksgiving this year, and rarely do we do things the conventional way. This year with the help of Kelly's Bake Shoppe we decided to have a romantic Thanksgiving themed picnic for two. Who am I kidding... I decided we were having it and he so graciously went along with my idea!

Pre Paris

White tiered statement sleeve sweater, blue denim, leopard belt, red bag, paris inspired, White mules

I officially cannot contain my excitement. We leave for Santorini and Paris in days, people! I can't even tell you how long we have been itching to get away. This year has just been torpid and we are in need to get away. I have been outfit planning for Europe for too long now. However... I'm only bringing a carry-on! Am I crazy? I may be. The cities are so different, both in temperatures and in style but I'm going to do my best to incorporate pieces I can transition from both climates. I have to say Joëlle's carry-on packing guide has been a huge help! Neutrals, neutrals and more neutrals! It makes it so easy to mix and match.
