5 Tips To Be The Best Guest

How to Be the Best Guest- Homesense, Holiday Git Guide-- charades, karaoke mic, marble slate, flowers, hostess gifts

We’ve all read the how-to entertain guides... how to be the hostess with the mostess, what to serve at your holiday party and how to decorate. But where are all the guides on how to be the best guest? Sure there are some main etiquette rules we all should follow, i.e.: don’t show up late (the host puts so much effort into the evening and is expecting you at a certain time), offer to help as much as possible but stay out of the hosts way when they are on a mission, and bring something as a gesture of your gratitude. But this part can be tricky. What to bring that will show just how much you appreciate their efforts and what will set you apart from all the other guests! Today I’m breaking it down for you. Five simple ways to be the best guest and ensure you bring something appropriate, yet fun! Want to know my secret? I don’t even have to leave one store to make it all happen. I rely on HomeSense time and time again for the most interesting, different and just plain exciting hostess gifts, and at every price point.

Tip 1: Don’t leave anyone out
Think about who is having the party. Are there kiddies around? Is it a couple? Bring a little something for each individual to really personalize the gift. Does she love to bake while he loves to mix cocktails? Make your own combination gift so they both feel extra special. Rose gold baking gadgets paired with a cocktail jigging set in the same colour is a perfect combo. It looks chic, and they both are happy!

So it’s just your gal pal and her pup throwing the party? Think outside the box. Maybe you were going to bring a bouquet anyways. Why not bring the flowers in a dog treat jar. Super thoughtful and way better than your typical cellophane wrapping!

Tip 2: Go the unconventional route
Okay, how many times do you get a completely useless statue of Santa Clause that you are just plain scared by? His eyes are usually creeping out above his glasses and his beard is some gross material you don’t even want to touch. Been there! Why not bring something fun and completely out of the box for your hostess. I absolutely love HomeSense for there unconventional items! I always find some hidden treasures. Like this amazing karaoke mic and charade card set. Not only does it give you something fun to do if the party gets lame, but I can almost guarantee no one else will have brought the same gift as you! It's fun, will definitely get used and will leave you with a night to remember.

Tip #3: Avoid the seasonal
Sometimes seasonal gifts are nice, but they only get used two out of the twelve months of the year. I love giving gifts that are timeless and just wrap them up in a way that screams holiday. A beautiful coffee table book is a stunning gift and so is a marble serving board paired with a set of coasters. They will get used all year round and are glam enough for the holiday season! And bonus-- you can score these items for much less then you find elsewhere! Just wrap it up with some lovely ribbon, add a few pinecones and greenery and you’re good to go!

Tip #4: Make your own box sets
Again, we’re going personal here. You don’t need to buy a ready-made gift set that has one or two items you know they’ll love and the rest may go to waste. Put your creative mind together and come up with a personalized gift. HomeSense has some amazing goodies at all different price points so there is no way you won’t be able to find something in your budget. A simple tray with an item from the gourmet food selection is thoughtful and delicious! Plus a huge time saver since you don’t need to slave away baking. Or what about a gorgeous trinket box filled with something from the beauty section? I love how they have different brands you won’t normally find elsewhere with elegant packaging. Think about what would be useful and package it all up in a pretty bow!

Tip #5: When all else fails, gift card it
I can promise you a gift card to HomeSense will be the best gift you can give. I may be saying this from experience (lol)! How to make it interesting though? Serve it up in a super chic marble butter dish. The look on their face when they realize it isn’t butter in that dish will be priceless! It's a win-win!

  1. Love your suggestions. I always bring a little something for kids, it's something I've always remembered from my parents friends growing up.
