4 Shoes You Need This Spring

Pastels & Pastries, toronto blogger, spring shoes, mules, slides, white sneakers

Later, winter! So over you, it's not even funny. Spring is here, officially, but the weather is still unpredictable. It snows one day, the next its literally sunshine and daisies. I'm not complaining, I'll take any sunshine I can get! One struggle I always have during this transition stage is knowing what to wear on my feet. I'm so done with boots by now, but it is still cold and wet! In light of the seasonal changes, I've rounded up the top shoes you need to go from winter to spring.

1- Slip On Loafers
I have been addicted to the slip-on lately. They are the perfect shoe to walk you into warmer weather. Slip-ons leave you some breathing room in the back and the closed-toe option is perfect for these March days. It still is cold, but I can't be bothered to wear boots, and they protect my toes from literally getting frostbite. Want even more springy vibes? Opt for a while pair. Beyond chic. And you can never go wrong with a pointy toe to dress up with a pair of trousers or down with a pair of jeans. These are going to become such an office staple during the warmer months, but I've already started wearing them!

2. White sneakers
If there is one pair of shoe everyone needs in their collection, it's a white sneaker. When the weather is cold but sunny I love pairing white sneakers with some denim and a long wool coat. It's such a refreshing switch up from wearing boots.  In the warmer months, pair them with dresses and skirts for a sporty but classic look. My Keds are one of the best pairs of shoes I own-- they withstand all seasons. I always take them with me while traveling because they are a go anywhere shoe!

H&M pink slides, pink lucite heel booties, black 3. Print boots
Remember how I mentioned snow is still continuing to fall? I just know we're bound to have another snowfall soon! So no, we can't just dismiss the realistic necessity of boots just yet. I have a funky pair to help me get through these final dreary winter days. The print screams spring, but the practicability is there. Actually, now that I am looking at these ones again, they are so impractical! LOL-- a high lucite heeled bootie? Oh well. There are so many fun options for printed boots these days, it's not hard to find a pair you'll love. Better than basic black and you can mix and match your spring patterns.

4. Mules
The mule is not going anywhere, guys! And why should they! They are so versatile and so functional. You just slide 'em on. I bought a few pairs this season already. One flat pink pair, and also a black block heeled style. I just love shoes with no backs! This may be too much info-- but sometimes it can get hot and my feet swell! Especially while walking in the warm weather. I know I'm not the only one! Going backless is the best way to let 'em breathe but still look stylish. Sidewalk ready at any time, and they pair with any outfit-- jeans, skirts, dresses. I'm sold.

Are there any styles you are hooked on for spring? Let me know if I missed any!

How To Feel More Comfortable In Your Own Skin

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

I love this quote. Loving yourself and your beauty is not as easy as it may seem. We all have those cringe moments... you know the ones. But what if we always felt great in our skin? What if we accepted ourselves for everything we are? How positive and infectious would that be? To constantly walk around feeling so proud and in love with yourself. This kind of self-love has the power to move mountains. And that's the self-love I want to exude. To feel that acceptance we must learn how to get as comfortable as possible as we can in our own skin. Your body is yours and only yours. It does extremely amazing things for you-- it takes you all over the world, it works endlessly for you, and it allows you to move to your own beat and live to your fullest potential. We must thank it for all that it does! The way to show it gratitude is to honour it, accept it and see it under this positive light.

Feeling more comfortable in our own skin is not something that is automatic and that happens overnight. Society has shaped us to develop these insecurities which alter our level of comfort. But, want to know a secret? We can get it back! It's yours for the taking. There are a few ways you can start working on growing this acceptance today, and it's something that you must do. Because, after all, your self-acceptance is the only acceptance that truly matters. I'm not preaching that I love my body day in and day out, but I want to. And I'll work on it for as long as I have to because my body deserves that. For all that it does for me.

Have a read through my little list and see which ones resonate with you the most and try it out. Become aware of these judgments so that you can alter your perspective. It really works!

1. Stop worrying about things not affecting you.

This can be a variety of things, and not just related to the body. It can be your friend's size, their job, their income, etc. Focus on things that do matter like family, your hobbies, and interests. Comparing is a form of judgment and once you let go of these comparisons and catch yourself making them you can turn this negative thinking around and focus on what you do have and love.

2. Don't seek validation.

Once you start doing things for the validation of others it loses the authenticity of the act. You don't need anyone else's acceptance or appreciation. Doing things for yourself and not for the reward is a great way to get comfortable with yourself. It will show you your capabilities and prove just how mighty and strong you are.

3. Release what does not serve you.

This relates to many aspects of your life. Distance yourself from negative people and their negativity will rub off on you. Stop following accounts that make you feel shameful or give you negative emotions and low self-esteem. IHaving this reminder of things you cannot do, own or have will drastically affect your mood and will push you away from loving yourself. Instead, it will make you jealous and judgy. Bask in the positivity of others so that the positivity will become second nature to you.

4. Fake it till you make it.

So you're having a bad day and all you see is gross. I've been there, too. But instead, you need to pull yourself up in these moments. ESPECIALLY these moments. They are the ones that will make you stronger.  I do not mean fake who you are here. I just mean push those positive thoughts into your head, even when it's hard. The best way I know to do this? Affirmations. You look in the mirror and smile. Smile until you feel so silly smiling at yourself. Tell yourself you are a babe and do a hair flip. Practicing self-love and positive self-talk has amazing powers. Over time it will work and you it will not be so hard to say anymore.

5. Wear things that make you feel comfortable and beautiful.

What makes you feel the best? A sexy lace bralette? Sweats and a knit? Whatever it may wear it, and love it. Avoid wearing something that doesn't work for you just because it's trendy and wearing things that you don't feel yourself in. One of my favourite outfits to lounge about in is a lacy bra and high waisted bottoms. I know... how bougie of me! I'm loving this WonderBra Wear It Your Way bra right now because it makes me feel comfortable in my skin. It's feminine, practical and classy. Want to know the best part (aside from the colour being called "Paris Nude")? It can be worn eight ways! I didn't even know that was possible. Seriously any kind of shirt. I love it. Plus it's totally smooth under clothes and there is no painful wire.  WonderBra just gets comfort, innovation, and elegance. I'm on my path to more self-love and I'm taking them with me!

What about you? What makes you feel comfortable in your own skin? I'd love to hear how you practice acceptance.

Winter to Spring Dressing

Winter to Spring Dressing, Spring pastels, grey turtleneck flared sleeves, palm print pants Old navy, Kate Spade bag, Expressions white block heel mules

I think we're all done with winter and all of it's antics. No more snow, please. I would like sunshine, warmth and if it's not too much to ask for, to wake up to the sounds of birds chirping. Are you with me?

I know we're one step closer to the new season and daylight savings time has officially made my heart a little happier since it's now lighter out later in the evening. But I'm so ready for the wardrobe switch up. I've already started incorporating spring prints and pieces into my outfits. These pants? Yes to the jungle, palm print! These shoes? Hello, open back! I'm obsessed with both pieces. The pants I scored at Old Navy for literally $2.99. Don't ask me how, because I don't know. They were just on clearance! And these shoes, I'm just loving lately. White shoes are perfect for spring-- they're fresh, detailed and I love the little heel (perfect for the office!).

Even though it may not be spring juuuuust yet, you can definitely start bringing out your pieces now. Here's how!

Pair with knits-- like a turtleneck or sweater. Keeping the colours neutral will really bring about those springy vibes.

Pastel coloured accessories-- blush, lavender, robin's egg blue. Pairing heavier pieces with these colours make the perfect transitional outfits.

White shoes-- I love wearing white sneakers or a pair of slides (like these) with heavier items. As long as you can manage without socks you are good to go! It really feels like spring once the white shoes come out!

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Banana Bread

Gluten free, refined sugar free, healthy

I was always impartial to banana bread. It got a big "meh" from me. There are so many other desserts to be had so I always overlooked it! Until I started making it myself and playing around with different recipes. And when you factor in the chocolate chips, the added peanut butter and homemade granola topping on this recipe, you have yourself a winner! Not going to lie, I even add another swipe of almond butter on top of it! Can't stop the almond butter addiction!

I love this recipe because there is no sugar added, no butter, and it's totally gluten-free! It's made with coconut flour which is high in fiber and protein. Even for the granola topping, you can make it using gluten-free oats, use a store bought one, or omit it completely. Looking to make this vegan? Try substituting the eggs for flax eggs. I haven't tried it but I imagine it would work! I adapted this recipe from Ambitious Kitchen to make it peanut buttery and delicious!  I'm so happy with how it turned out. I hope you try it out! I mean, I know you have a few overly ripe bananas on your counter. And the best part about this... all you need is one bowl! YES. Fewer dishes and less time to throw together. It's an all-around winner. Seriously who has time to do more dishes...  I sometimes avoid recipes just because they call for more than one mixing bowl. Dead serious. Anyways, check out the recipe below! You'll love it. Breakfast, snack, before bed. Just do it. Then let me know how much you love it!

Chocolate chip peanut butter banana bread
Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Banana Bread
adapted from Ambitious Kitchen

3 small to medium ripe bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup all natural peanut butter (crunchy is bomb in this recipe!)
2 eggs
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup granola (for topping)

Line an 8x4 inch loaf pan with parchment paper and preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine bananas, vanilla, peanut butter in a large bowl and mix using an electric beater
Add eggs to mixture and combine
Add in coconut flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt and mix
Stir in chocolate chips (save a few to sprinkle on top)
Pour batter into pan and top with a few chocolate chips and the granola (if using)
Bake for 30-35 minutes (make sure your toothpick comes out clean, you don't want it underbaked)
Let cool completely in pan (*essential), remove, slice and enjoy!

Mustard, Blush and Old Tricks

Mustard high waist trousers Blue Lemon Paris bag, Auguste the Label blush floral top, Forever 21 blush blazer, how to dress for spring, dress tuck

This past weekend was so refreshing. Finally, the temperatures were above freezing and the sun was shining! I feel such a sense of newfound energy when the sun is out. It's making me sooo eager for spring! Sunday I headed to the Wedding Co. Market with my momma for a day of vendor scouting. I couldn't believe all the fab connections I made. I can't wait to put all the plans into action and share more. Is that something you'd like?! More wedding updates? Let me know in the comments, or on Instagram! Perhaps a vlog?!

Since it was a glorious day I put away my parka and opted for a crisp blush oversized blazer, which is technically a coat. I wear it as both depending on the day! Also, remember this post? So happy I picked up these mustard pants last fall because the colour is taking over this spring! I love it paired with pink. It's so fun and playful but still has that classic P&P vibe. Now for that old trick I mentioned? You guys know I am the queen of the dress tuck (seen here, and here). This shirt? Yeah, it's actually a dress tucked in! I love doing this with my summer dresses because you can get so much more wear out of them! Try it out!
