How to Beat The Winter Blues

Holy moly, it's cold out. The past few weeks have been just extreme. I know it's winter and I live in Canada, but wow. Doesn't it just make you want to curl up in a ball and do absolutely nothing? It does to me... But that is so not productive, and it can make you feel extremely isolated and down! So I am not about that. I may have given in for a day or so but I am vowing to not let it continue! There is still life to live and stuff to get done. I know it can be tough but here are some tips on getting out of that winter funk and embracing winter:

1. Bundle up. We cannot just hide inside until March. Prepare yourself so you are not cold and miserable. I won't even leave the house without gloves, a scarf, and a hat. They are always floating around in my bag because I don't like to get caught unprepared. So stock up on all the cute cold weather accessories while you can and have them with you at all times! 

2. Get outside. Getting a few minutes of fresh air can do wonders for your state of mind. It's becoming increasingly difficult to get out during daylight hours during the week so I am making an effort to just step outside on my lunch break, even if only for a few minutes. The sun and the fresh air have the ability to change your mood, increases energy and reduce stress levels. Take advantage at any point you can to get some physical activity. Don't want to be alone with your thoughts? Play some tunes or download a playlist. 

3. Make weeknight plans. This is something I sometimes struggle with. By the time I get home from work it's dark outside and all I can fathom doing is eating and hopping in the bath. But having dates and events to look forward to can make all the difference. You don't want to waste away the days just because it's winter. There are plenty of indoor activities you can plan-- coffee dates, movie dates, shopping trips, etc. Bonus*  shopping = physical activity! 

4. Brighten up your space. Inject some life into your space! There is nothing like an inspiring, clean and bright space to inspire you.  So we don't have actual daylight... there are other ways to brighten! De-cluttering your closets, and making areas more organized will leave you feeling lighter and fresh. Diffuse energizing scents like citrus and peppermint, add some fresh flowers to the rooms and open up curtains. Beautiful, bright spaces are key to lifting spirits.

  2. Whoo! Thanks for the inspiration, lady! Seems obvious but I can't believe how often I forget to bundle up properly and it makes all the difference! Luckily it appears that the worst of the cold is over for now. Absolutely LOVING that colour on you. :)
