2015 Reflections

{a day with Kelly's Bake Shoppe, a cotton candy collaborationCharlestoncoffee mascara hustletropical pool party with friends, OOAK collab, Palm Springs, Holiday blog squadmy Ferrero moment}

Two thousand and fifteen was filled with incredible moments. I collaborated with some fabulous bloggers and local businesses, went on a picture perfect trip to Charleston with my man, and another incredible trip to California with my mom. In between all those big ticket events, life was filled with colourful outfits, delicious treats and simple moments spent with loved ones. It was also filled with stressful, anxious times, and a boatload of tears. Although these moments are not necessarily projected on P&P, I want you to know that they happen, and often at that. We all deal with pain, and I don't want you to think for a second that life is pastel perfect over here! I just aim to bring you a place of happiness in hopes to inspire your everyday. With everything in me I want to you thank you for following along on this journey of a blog. It means the world to me that I'm ringing in another year with Pastels & Pastries. Here are some of my most treasured moments in snapshots. Keep scrolling to see some of my favourite outfits and baking moments of 2015.

Black & Glam

New Years Eve look- faux fur stole, black sequins

Christmas came and went in a flash, and all buzz seems to be focused on the most sparkly, glittery and glam night of the year-- New Year's Eve. It's time to fancy up and put your sparkly foot forward regardless of what your plans are! This year we are staying in with friends and I'm looking forward to taking silly photos with props, dancing to some of the year's best hits, and popping some bubbly to cheers to the best memories of 2015. Even though we are staying in, it doesn't mean our New Year's Eve attire has to revolve around sweats and a pony tail (unless that is what you're feeling, and there's nothing wrong with that). I'm still taking advantage of the opportunity to dress up in unexpected pieces and rock the night away, even if that means doing so in my bestie's basement!

Le Château asked me what my fashion resolution is for 2016, and it really is just to dress how I feel without any added pressure. If that means wearing beaded sequins and a faux fur stole one day, then so be it! But if it means sneakers and sweats that's okay too. For 2016 I want to let my outfits reflect me on any given day, regardless of trends, the dreaded FOMO, and other added influences.

What is your fashion resolution for 2016? Could it be to wear more colour, or buy less trendy pieces? Fill me in! And I'd love to hear your New Year's Eve plans.

Active Meets Everyday

Getting back to a normal routine after the Holidays can be a bit strenuous. Somewhere along the way workouts were pushed aside for shopping and gathering with friends, and that after dinner cup of hot chocolate became a ritual. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those activities! We need a change up every now and again, and it just makes you appreciate being on track that much more.

As much as I look forward to the Holidays I do look forward to a motivating new year, as it really does provide a sense of refreshment and renewal. I love that Bench offers not only performance apparel but straight up lifestyle apparel as well, and that you can combine the pieces to put together some killer weekend wear. Tights, runners, and a tee and I'm set for a run. Tights, booties and a knit cardigan, and I'm set for running errands all over town. Talk about the ultimate versatile brand.

{Bench. sweater, tee, tights c/o (all on sale!), Nike shoes, Celine sunglasses}
Funky tights are an obsession of mine. I do own a fair share of them and it's never enough. What do you see in this pair-- marble print or lightening bolts? Whatever you see in this pattern it's either hard as stone or fiercely fast, and I'd take being either. And there we have some more automatic motivation, right? Bonus- they are reflective!

You can also never have enough cozy knits. I knew Bench. offered a wide variety of hoodies and zip-ups, but I wasn't totally aware that they produced such great knits. This sweater is so warm and so versatile since the longer length makes me feel more comfortable, almost like I'm wearing a coat.

What do you say-- Are you ready to get back now that the Holidays are almost over? And let me know what do you think of combining active wear with lifestyle apparel.

Here are some more tips for getting back on track

Holiday Glam

We have only a few days until Christmas and the Holiday festivities are still going strong! This past weekend I pushed the red and plaid aside and opted for a nude monochrome look. I love how this crop, which has an added touch of shimmer in the fabric, balances out the knit texture of the skirt. Throw in some glam accessories and a pair of statement heels and it really made for the perfect Holiday dinner-party ensemble.

You already saw my #FerreroMoment here, but I just had to have another one! I mean… when a fine chocolate matches your decor and looks fabulous alongside your outfit how could you not?! I love that the Ferrero tiered "tree" is basically a Holiday decoration in itself. You can admire it's pretty packaging, then indulge in the creamy milk chocolate, hazelnut delight (and if you rotate the tree no one will even know you snuck in a few before dinner)! Leave it out for guests, or bring the tree or the Grand Ferrero to your Holiday party. They do make the perfect hostess gifts.  The only problem with having such fine chocolate act as decor is that it makes you want to eat it… all the time!

What do you think of my more neutral Holiday glam look? Are you sticking to red and gold for this week's festivities?

Faux Meets Fringe

Blush Faux Fur Coat, Faux Leather Leggings, Fringe top- Winter Style

The only way to describe this weekend is cold AF. Okay, well maybe it was busy, festivity filled, and fun, but cold… definitely cold. Saturday started off with a lovely brunch with some of my favourite bloggies, Joelle from La Petite Noob (thanks for taking these pics, girl!), Siffat from Icing & Glitter, and Tara from The TL Blog. We brunched at Colette Grand Cafe, a true blogger's paradise, which I highly recommend visiting for any occasion- a quick coffee and takeaway macaron, brunch, or dessert. I also headed to the Christmas Market at Crown Flora Studio to finish some Christmas shopping, where some seriously talented Toronto artisans were selling their products. I picked up some of Diala's Kitchen addicting homemade granola, and obsessed over Cambie's stunning blankets. But running around all over town in this weather meant bundling up, and all I can say is thank goodness for this faux fur coat.

I recently picked up this coat at the LANGsura pop up shop and have barely taken it off since. So cozy, so snuggly-- I'm obsessed. I love the shade because it's blush without being overly pink and pairs well with any piece; faux leather pants for the daytime, and over a dress for the evening.  LANGsura is a Toronto based online boutique that prides themselves on providing affordable, stylish pieces to Canadians. I can pretty much guarantee you will love (and so will your wallet) their collection of stylish pieces that founder, Joyce, curates from all over the world. LANGsura will be at 111 Roncesvalles Ave until January 3rd, but be sure to check out their online shop and take advantage of free shipping on orders over $100 within Canada!

Easy Peanut Butter Cups

I've been a die hard peanut butter lover since the beginning. As I child I would lick it off a spoon, in university I would spread it over crackers for dinner on some desperate, late nights, and now a days I slather it on pretty much anything- my favorites being apples, bananas and yes-- I still do eat it by the spoonful.

Dark chocolate and peanut butter is one of those combinations I can't pass up, and I'm pretty much done for it if I see it around, in a dessert, by itself, ice cream, you name it! I saw these easy homemade peanut butter cups on Pinterest and knew I had to try them. I mean three ingredients? Come on! I find they are best straight from the freezer, and are perfect for an after dinner treat, or two or three (yeah- it's happened).  The best part is you know exactly what is going into them and they take no time at all to make. If you have a mini muffin pan, microwave and a freezer, you're good to go! Check out the recipe below and let me know what you think!

Recipe adapted from: Five Heart Home

  • 1 1/2 cups dark melting chocolate or chips(you can use any type of melting chocolate i.e.: semi-sweet)
  • 5 tablespoons of coconut oil (which you will split up between the chocolate and peanut butter)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter (feel free to use all natural, or you kid favorite)

  1. Line a mini muffin pan with mini cupcake liners (trays usually holds 24)
  2. Melt all chocolate in microwave with 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Stir every 30 seconds until runny. Careful not to burn.
  3. Spoon 1 teaspoon of chocolate into each muffin liner. Using the back of the spoon make sure the whole liner is coated with the chocolate, even the sides. This will ensure the sides are chocolatey. Save the rest of the chocolate.
  4. Freeze muffin tin for 10 minutes, or until chocolate is frozen.
  5. While freezing, mix 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with peanut butter. I needed to heat mine up to combine.
  6. Drop one spoonful of peanut butter into each cupcake liner.
  7. Top peanut butter with remaining chocolate, use all of it to cover the tops. You may need to zap chocolate if it started to harden.
  8. Freeze for about 30 minutes, or until frozen.

Remove from freezer and peel off liners to get that classic peanut butter cup look! Like I mentioned, I leave mine in the freezer to snack on. But eat as you please!

Let me know what you think!

Holiday Blog Squad

I love the Holidays for many reasons, but spending time with those dear to me has to be at the top of the list. The blogging world, which can be daunting and isolating at times, has brought me close to some incredibly inspiring ladies, who are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, and this Holiday season we had a goal to get together to create something extra special. It's so nice to have found a group of ladies to relate to and share in the excitement of blogging, bounce ideas off of and ask for advice. We wanted this "something" to be girly, sparkly and all around fun, because if you can't dance around to Christmas carols while sipping champagne and nibbling on cotton candy during the Holidays, when can you?!

Not only did we want to get together over the Holidays, but we wanted to showcase some extremely talented local brands all while having an excuse to put on pretty skirts, and eat sweets. Before I introduce you to these brands, I want to introduce you to these lovely, supportive ladies who make blogging so much more fun!

Curated by Amy: Amy always makes me laugh with her quick wit. Aside from being gorgeous, she has a true artistic side and a hand bag collection that is to die for! On Curated by Amy you will get to see said handbag collection first hand and her incredible style.

Pastel Dress Party brings beautifully crafted, affordable, custom dresses and skirts to the every girl and for every occasion. They have a variety of different styles of dresses and skirts for any occasion, and you can seriously customize them to your exact liking and size. We went with tulle and loved having the chance to feel like princesses for a day.

Cherrypick: There is no doubt you will be making a statement with Cherrypick. Each piece of finely designed and crafted jewellery is stunning and will most definitely have everyone asking "where did you get that?". So sparkly, on trend, and will fit the bill. I love that you can style the jewels for any event-- the fanciest of affairs to the days where you just need a little something extra. And what's the Holidays without a little bling?!

Flower Maiden FloralsThis floral queen is a true artist. Each piece was individually designed and made to order with the most delicate care and intricate detail taken into account. Looking for a floral headpiece for any occasion? Check. Looking for a set of bouquets or arrangements for your next event? Olivia's your girl. Raelene is not only incredibly talented, but she is the sweetest. And I mean the sweetest! I couldn't have imagined a better experience. Her bubbly personality made me instantly feel comfortable in front of the camera, and had us all feeling so natural by the end of it. This whole day really couldn't have come together without these amazing ladies and inspiring local brands. We loved having the opportunity to showcase brands and people that are killing it at what they do right here in our backyard. DIY Ornaments

Is there anything better than a glittery, pastel, Holiday mess? I wanted to make a little something for each of the girls in our Holiday shoot (which I can't wait to share!!), and thought homemade ornaments would be the perfect idea. They are so easy to make, and fun at that. All you need is the plastic ornaments, which I purchased from Michael's for 89 cents a piece, and any sort of odds and ends to throw inside. You can easily take the classic Holiday route with these ornaments, and fill them with pine sprigs and lace, and pine-cones, which would equally be as lovely. Since our shoot was girly in nature, I filled them with sparkles, glitter, mini rubber cupcakes, feathers, beads and pastel balls.

Check out the pictures below for a little inspiration! Fill your ornaments with whatever you're feeling. Add them to the tree, hang them together as a garland, or tie them to your presents for the ultimate toppers. Have fun with them and get crafty this season!
